Roger McGuinn (born James McGuinn III) is most famous for being a founding member, singer, guitarist, and songwriter in The Byrds. Since that band's demise he has had moderate success as a solo artist, working with many other artists, including Bob Dylan and Tom Petty. Some of his solo material has appeared in films, such as 1969's Easy Rider. Roger, along with the other Byrds members, was honored with an induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1991.

EA
Every thing went from bad to worse money never changed a thing EA Death kept following trackin us down at least I heard your bluebird sing G#mEA Now somebody's got to show their hand time is but an enemy AEBC#mEAEAEA *
I know you're long gone I guess it must be up to me E If I'd thought about it I never would have done it A
I guess I would a let it slide E
If I'd a pay attention to what others were thinking A
This heart inside of me would have died G#mE
I was just too stubborn to ever be governed A
By enforced insanity AEBC#mEAEAEA *
Someone had to reach for the risin star I guess it was up to me EA
Well the Union Central is pullin out and the orchids are in bloom EA
I've only got me one good shirt left and it smells like stale perfume G#mEA
In fourteen months I've only smiled once I didn't do it consciously EBC#mEAEAE A Somebody's got to find your trail and I guess it had to be up to me EA
It was like a revelation when you betrayed me with your touch EA I'd had just about convinced myself that nothing had changed that much G#mEA The old rounder in the iron mask he slipped me the master key EBC#mEAEAEA * Somebody had to unlock your heart he said it was up to me EA Well I watched you slowly disappear down into the officer's club EA I would have followed you in the door but I didn't have a ticket stub G#mE So I waited all night long till the break of day hoping one of us would get A free EBC#mEAEAEA * When the dawn came over the river bridge I knew it was up to me EA Well the only decent thing I did was when I worked as a postal clerk EA Was to haul your picture down off the wall near the cage where I use to G#mEA work I was a fool not to try to protect your idenity EBC#mE You looked a little burned out my friend AEAEA * I thought it might be up to me EA When I met somebody face to face I had to remove my hat EA She's everything I need and love but I can't be swayed by that G#mEA It frightens me the awful truth how sweet life can be EBC#mEAEAEA * But she ain't a gonna make a move I guess it must be up to me EA We heard the sermon on the mount and I knew it was too complex EA It didn't amount to anything more than what a broken glass reflects G#m, EA When you bite off more than you can chew you pay the penalty EBC#mEAEAEA * Somebody's got to tell the tale I guess it must be up to me EA Well Dupree came a pimping tonight to the Thunderbird Cafe EA Crystal wanted to talk to him I had to look the other way G#mEA Now I just can't rest without your love I need your company EBC#mEAEAEA But you ain't a gonna cross the line I guess it must be up to me EA There's a note left in the bottle you can give it to Estelle EA She's the one you've been wondering about there's really nothin much to
tell G#mEA We both heard voices for awhile now the rest is history EBC#mEAEAEA * Somebody's got to cry some tears I guess it must be up to me EA So go on boys and play your hands life is but a pantomine EA The ringleaders from the county seat say you don't have all that much time G#mEA And the girl with me behind the shades she ain't my property EBC#mEAEAEA One of us has got to hit the road I guess it must be up to me EA And if we never meet again baby remember me EA How my lone guitar played sweet for you that old time melody G#mEA And the rickenbacker around my leg I played it for you for free EBC#mEAEAEAE No one else could play that tune you know it was up to me
