In 2000 Madeline began performing her songs in Athens, Georgia at the age of 15. Over the next couple of years, Madeline worked on a full length album and fronted the locally successful psychedelic pop band, The Sugar Shakers. In 2002 Madeline self-released her album Kissing & Dancing. In 2003 the record was re-released by Plan-It-X records. That year, Madeline went on her first big tour, accompanied by Zumm Zumm. 2003 also saw the release of a split EP with The Dead Bird (on Plan-It-X) and a 7" single on Hillbilly Stew Records.

Hey, there are absolutely no Madeline Adams tabs. It's a little bit heartbreaking. So, here it is. I hope someone enjoys it other than me.
E Shoot a squirrel and baby girl don't even know her father A Sent her away on the fifth of may E To a steamboat in the water I loved her well but I'm going to hell And she won't know its fires A When I'm away she'll dine in Maine E On bloody marys and lobster The day I die, well by that time She will be a woman A She won't know me but her love's at sea E With a steamboat captain husband I can't sleep at night, oh she's wonderin' why She don't know her father A I tell her she born when the beauty of the sun E Fell into the water
BAE Well the devil don't know, but I'll be countin' his gold tonight BAE You can't grow old when you're countin' his gold tonight (2 times)
E When she dies why the wings won't fly her All the way to Jesus A Her soul will lay and move with the waves E Oh the devil told me all his secrets (3 times)
