Poor Folks-Poor Ways

D G D
Poor folks have poor ways
A
Thats what they said when I was growing up
D G D
Low pay and long, long days
A D
Back then, you had to be tough
G D
We lived in a share- croppers house
A
High ceilings and wall-papered walls
D G D
Poorer than country church mouse
A D
But we were happy, all of us
G D
Mama made us clothes from old flour sacks
A
And we had only one pair of shoes to wear
G D
But we could make it cause we bowed our backs
A D
Daddy cut every- bodys hair
G D
Saturday night, we all had a bath
A
Three inches of water in a three foot tub
D G D
Cleanest kid got to go first
A D
Dirtiest had to be last
G D
We were dutch- scrubbed clean
A
Shiny as a penny
D G D
Sun tanned, skinny and lean
A D
Going to town to get some candy
G D
None of us knew of any better days
A
We were just poor folk
D
With poor ways
