The group was integral to the development of 1960s counterculture and popular music's recognition as an art form. Rooted in skiffle, beat and 1950s rock and roll, their sound incorporated elements of classical music and traditional

ONLY A NORTHERN SONG - The Beatles, Yellow Submarine 1969. ----------------------
This is a great song by George IMHO and I couldn't find it anywhere on the net, so here goes. This only an attempt, and it indeed is one of my very first songs to do, so don't blame me... :) If you can do better, I'd love to see it.
I didn't bother to do the organ or whatever part in the beginning. Also if you can tab the bass, send it to me...
Any comments, death threats, corrections, thanks -> [email protected]
Words taken from some site on the net, but I can't recall now.
This is the version from the LP. Differences for the Anthology II version are discussed later.
Chords used: EADGBE A x02220 A(v) 577655 Bm x24432 E 022100 F#m 244222 F# 244322 D x00232
[Intro on some keyboard stuff, you can just play A(v)]
A(v) 1. If you're listening to this song Bm You may think the chords are going wrong A(v) But they're not he just wrote it like that. A(v) 2. When you're listening late at night Bm You may think the band are not quite right A(v) But they are, they just play it like that
[Chorus]
E It doesn't really matter what chords I play F#mF#BmF# What words I say or time of day it is DAE As it's only a Northern song
[Play verse chords without lyrics: A(v)BmA(v)]
E It doesn't really matter what clothes I wear F#mF#BmF# Or how I fare or if my hair is brown DAE When it's only a Northern song.
A(v) If you think the harmony Bm Is a little dark and out of key A(v) You're correct, there's nobody there.
[Play chorus chords without lyrics: EF#mF#BmF#] DAE And I told you there's no one there.
The Anthology version has different words, here's my attempt at picking these:
If you're listening to this song You may think the chords are going wrong But they're not, I just wrote it like that When you listen late at night You may feel the words are not quite right But they are, I just wrote them myself And it doesn't really matter what chords I play What words I say or time of day it is As it's only a Northern song. It doesn't really matter what clothes I wear Or how I fare or if my hair is brown When it's only a Northern song. If you think the harmony Is a little off and out of key Then you're right 'cos I sing it myself.
That's it. If you've got the keyboard part or the bass, I'd be grateful to see it. Any comments, corrections etc, mail me.
