Sycamore Smith

The Man With The Skeleton Arms

by Sycamore Smith
Sycamore Smith

Biography:

Sycamore Smith is the stage name of Marc Smith, a musician from Marquette, Michigan. Smith, formerly of The Muldoons, has toured the United States with his uniquely comic brand of folk music, complete with derby hat, guitar, and kazoo.

Though little known outside of the Michigan area, his popularity is slowly growing, in most part due to his excellent website and some loyal fans spreading the word. Sycamore is an accomplished lyricist, and his songs often reflect his love of his home area and his atheism (Hokum All Ye Faithful).

Four years of hard work!

This month of May we celebrated four years on the air. We continue working on the dissemination of this wonderful instrument, thank you for participating in our story!

This is a very simple version I worked out when I saw it didn't have a tab. The song was
popularized by
Toh Kay when he covered it in You By Me Vol: 2 (which I highly recommend) that came out
a few weeks ago
(August, 2014)

Chorus:
G D
Wake up, Flanagan, the bartender's comin'
Am
He says there's someone here
C
Who means to do us harm--
G D
Sound the alarm, it's the man with the skeleton arms

G D G

Verse 1:
Em D
Ten years ago on Hogsback Mountain
C D
The flames was roaring like a lion in a fountain
Em D
The trees were burning, too many to count 'em
C D Em
And trapped in the middle with fire all around him, was a man...

Em D
Flanagan and I was out camping that day
C D
We started our fire with turpentine and hay
Em D
The wind was howlin' so I guess we should have known
C D Em
That the flames was gonna get blown across the land...

Chorus

Verse 2:
Em D
Two days later when the fire died out
C D
Flanagan and I went rootin' about
Em D
For to find a little dinner of roasted critter,
C D Em
Blackened blackbird eggs and pine-cone fritters...

Em D
That was how we happened on the badly burned man
C D
He was yelpin' for help and so we each grabbed a hand
Em D
Thinking we'd be heroes if we dragged him back home,
C D Em
We pulled, but pulled the flesh right offa the bone...

Chorus

Verse 3:
Em D
Now of all the mad people, that guy was the maddest
C D
He pulled a bone across his throat and pointed right at us
Em D
Ten years on the run from that skeletal man
C D Em
He's sworn his revenge, we've heard his sinister plan...:

Em D
He'll string us up by our hands and lift us over a vat
C D
And dip us up to our elbows in boiling fat
Em D
It's like an eye for an eye, but ninety-nine times worse
C D
He wants to do to us what we did to him,
Em
Except in reverse...
