Willie Hugh Nelson (born April 29, 1933) is an American musician, actor, and activist. The critical success of the album Shotgun Willie (1973), combined with the critical and commercial success of Red Headed Stranger (1975) and Stardust (1978), made Nelson one of the most recognized artists in country music. He was one of the main figures of outlaw country, a subgenre of country music that developed in the late 1960s as a reaction to the conservative restrictions of the Nashville sound.

D Take the ribbon from your hair G shake it loose and let it fall AA7 playing soft against your skin D like the shadows on the wall
D Come and lay down by my side G till the early morning light AA7 all I'm taking is your time DGD help me make it through the night
G I don't care if it's right or wrong D I don't try to understand E let the devil take tomorrow A 'cause tonight I need a friend
Yesterday is dead and gone and tomorrow's out of sight and it's sad to be alone help me make it through the night
Yesterday is dead and gone and tomorrow's out of sight I don't wanna be alone help me make it through the night
A I don't wanna be alone GD help me make it through the night
