...DOWNTOWN TRAIN... by Tom Waits --------------------.............
*from 'Rain Dogs' (1985)*
*CAPO 1st FRET*
(Original Key: Eb)
[Intro]
D, GA (x2)
[Verse 1]
DGAD Outside, a-nother yellow moon, GA Has punched a hole in the night-time, yes. DGAD I climb through the window and down to the street, GA I'm shining like a new dime.
[Bridge 1]
GA The downtown trains are full, GA With all of those Brooklyn girls. GA They try so hard to break out of their little worlds.
[Verse 2]
DGAD Well, you wave your hand and they scatter like crows, GAD They have nothing that will ever capture your heart. GAD They're just thorns, without the rose; GA Be careful of them in the dark.
[Bridge 2]
GAGA Oh, if I was the one, you chose to be your only one. GA Oh baby, can't you hear me now? Can't you hear me now?
[Chorus 1]
DGA Will I see you to-night, DGA On a downtown train? DGEmA Every night it's just the same; you leave me lonely, now.
[Verse 3]
DGAD I know your window and I know it's late, GA I know your stairs and your doorway. DGAD I walk down your street and past your gate, GA I stand by the light at the four-way.
[Bridge 3]
GA You watch them as they fall, GA Oh baby, they all have heart-attacks. GA They stay at the carnival but they'll never win you back.
[Chorus 2]
DGA Will I see you to-night, DGA On a downtown train? DGEmA Where every night, every night, it's just the same, oh baby...
DGA Will I see you to-night, DGA On a downtown train? DGEmA All of my dreams, they fall like rain, oh baby, on a downtown train.
[Interlude]
DG, DA, DG, A (x2)
[Chorus 3]
DGA Will I see you to-night, DGA On a downtown train? DGEmA Where every night, every night, it's just the same, oh baby...
DGA Will I see you to-night, DGA On a downtown train? DGEmA All of my dreams, they fall like rain, oh baby, on a downtown train.
[Coda]
DGADGAD All on a downtown train, all on a downtown train. GADGAD All on a downtown train, a downtown train.
