Tom Paxton (born Thomas Richard Paxton on October 31, 1937) is an American singer and writer of folk music whose songs have had enduring appeal (and include modern standards such as "The Last Thing on My Mind") known for a cynical, often political edge. In 2009, he received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. Paxton was born in Chicago, Illinois, the youngest child of Burton and Esther Paxton. The Paxton family moved to Bristow, Oklahoma in 1948, where Tom grew to adulthood and which he still considers home.

Did You Hear John Hurt? by Tom Paxton
Play in A ( capo up 2)
GCG It was a frosty night, it was beginning to snow, DG And on the city streets, the wind began to blow, CG We all came to the cellar we all emptied the bar. DG To hear a little fellow play a shiny guitar.
Chorus G Did you hear John Hurt- play the Creole Bell? DG Spanish Fandango? That he loved so well?
And did you love John Hurt? Did you shake his hand? CGD Did you hear him play his Candy Man?
On a straight back chair, with his felt hat on He tickled our fancy with his "Avalon" And everyone passing down on Toulouse Street Would cock their heads and listen to the tapping feet. (Chorus- 2X)
