Timothy Charles Buckley III (February 14, 1947 – June 29, 1975) was an experimental vocalist and performer who incorporated jazz, psychedelia, funk, soul, and avant-garde rock, in a short career spanning the late 1960s and early 1970s, ending with his death at age 28 from an alcohol-heroin overdose.
Buckley often regarded his tenor voice as an instrument, a talent most noticeable on his albums Happy Sad, Lorca, and Starsailor. His first marriage was to Mary Guibert, with whom he had a child, musician Jeff Buckley.
Four years of hard work! This month of May we celebrated four years on the air. We continue working on the dissemination of this wonderful instrument, thank you for participating in our story!
================================================================== Artist - Tim Buckley Song - Cripples Cry Album - This track wasn't released on any of Buckley's studio albums but a version can found on the bootleg 'Live at the Folklore Center 1967', which is of a January '67 in Greenwich Village. A studio version was definitely recorded around the time of and Hello, and is allegedly sitting in the archives of Herb Cohen, Buckley's then manager. it'll get a proper release some day (although given that Starsailor and Blue Afternoon remain out of print I wouldn't hold your breath!).
================================================================== Tabbed by Benjamin Wilson ([email protected]) - 9th Feb 08 ==================================================================
The whole song uses the same four chords over and over. The basic pattern in the on the root chord seems to be:
A e-----------------------| B---------------3-------| G-------------3---3-----| D-----------------------| A------0----------------| E-----------------------|
And then I guess pick as suits your style, or listen to the recording to see how it's there. If you have a beautiful voice with a four octave range that will probably add to its performance as well...
ADC#mBmA I know we're through but I still can't really believe that we'd fall
ADC#mBmA And though it's sad I still try to hold back my tears, but still I call
ABmC#m What can I say or do for you?
BmA What would you like me to be?
ABmC#m Shall I laugh, dance or sing for you?
BmA Cripples cry, what can I do?
ADC#mBm Yes I know that you don't want me anymore
ADC#mBm I carry tears, incense and fine wines
A What do you do?
ADC#mBm A But please believe that your love will grow with time or with need
ADC#mBm A And though you say that you'll never change your mind, I'll be here
DC#mBm And I'm a torn down child for you
A I build my castles in the sky
DC#mBm And I've the colours of a clown
A In the teardrops from my eyes
ADC#mBm Yes I know that you don't want me anymore
ADC#mBm I carry tears, incense and fine wines
A What do you do?
ADC#m I'm on the other side of fear
BmA Through my pain I've learned to love
ADC#m And if my actions aren't too clear
BmA remember clowns only cry
ADC#mBm Yes I know that you don't need me anymore
ADC#mBm I carry tears, incense and fine wines
A What do you do?
ADC#m Your dark secrets torture my mind
BmA Your life of love turns me cold
ADC#m And your first lovers you've left behind
BmA Or do you wish to return?
ADC#mBm Oh yes I know that you don't need me anymore
ADC#mBm I carry tears, incense and fine wines
A What do you do?
ADC#m What can I say or do for you?
BmA What would you like me to be?
ABmC#m Shall I laugh, dance or sing for you?
BmA Cripples cry, what can I do?
ADC#mBm And yes I know that you don't need me anymore
ADC#mBm I carry tears, incense and fine wines
A What do you do?
================================================================== NB - I can't be 100% sure on the lyrics cos the bootleg's kind of poor quality. I think mostly right though.
