The Shins are an American indie rock band centered around James Mercer.
The band formed in 1997, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, United States as a side project of Mercer (previously of Blue Roof Dinner) and drummer Jesse Sandoval, who were both members of Flake Music. The band's original lineup was Mercer (vocals, guitar), Sandoval (drums), Marty Crandall (keyboards) and Dave Hernandez (bass). Neil Langford replaced Hernandez in 1998. Hernandez returned to the band in 2003, as Langford had left the band in 2001.

Untie me, I've said no vows C The train is getting way too loud F I gotta leave here my girl C Get on with my lonely life G Just leave the ring on the rail C For the wheels to nullify
C Until this turn in my head C I let you stay and you paid no rent FC I spent twelve long months on the lam G That's enough sitting on the fence C For the fear of breaking dams
AmC I find a fatal flaw F In the logic of love CGAm And go out of my head
C You love a sinking stone F That'll never elope CG So get used to the lonesome CG Girl, you must atone some CGFC Don't leave me no phone number there
(Solo): C/C/F/C/G/C
C It took me all of a year C To put the poison pill to your ear FC But now I stand on honest ground, on honest ground G You want to fight for this love F But honey you cannot wrestle a dove C So baby it's clear
AmC You want to jump and dance F But you sat on your hands CG And lost your only chance AmC Go back to your hometown F Get your feet on the ground CG And stop floating around
AmC I find a fatal flaw F In the logic of love CGAm And go out of my head
C You love a sinking stone F That'll never elope CG So get used to used to the lonesome CG Girl, you must atone some CGFC Don't leave me no phone number there
