John Gorka (born in July 1958) is an American contemporary folk musician. In 1991, Rolling Stone magazine called him "the pre-eminent male singer-songwriter of what has been dubbed the New Folk Movement.
Gorka was born in Edison, New Jersey. He received his first guitar as a Christmas gift, though Gorka alleges that his older brother stole it from him shortly thereafter. He eventually learned, instead, to play the banjo, and began performing in a folk music group at his church.

BLUE CHALK by John Gorka >From "Between Five And Seven"
INTRO: CGDmAmFG (2x)
C So I wonder how she's doing G I hate it when the rumors fly DmAm They give off such a strange sense of mission FG Wing your helplessness on high
C But she would never run from strangers G She sang alone like a bell will toll DmAm Way above the clang and the clatter FG Out of fear of her demon soul
INTERLUDE: CGDmAmFG
C Maybe none of this is my business G And none of what I hear is true DmAm I am far from the mint condition FG Circulation's hard on you
CHORUS: C Hold tight, hang tough G Love's not enough DmAm To keep you off that stuff FG To save you F Hold tight, hang tough Am7 Love's not enough DmAm To keep you off that stuff FGC To save you now
INTERLUDE: CGDmAmFG (3x)
C He could always find the holes in the bottles G Even with a blindfold on DmAm Never kept his seat on the wagon FG Rolling off like a rolling stone
C Blue chalk between his fingers G Hustling a poolroom song DmAm He always kept a line for the singers FG Pointing his cue right from wrong
CHORUS: C Hold tight, hang tough G Love's not enough DmAm To keep you off that stuff FG To save you F Hold tight, hang tough Am7 Love's not enough DmAm To keep you off that stuff FGC To save you now
INTERLUDE: CGDmAmFG
C So I wonder how she's doing G I hate it when the rumors fly DmAm They give off such a strange sense of mission FG Wing your helplessness on high
C She would never run from strangers G She sang alone like a bell will toll DmAm Way above the clang and the clatter FG Out of fear of her demon soul
