Jimmy Dean

This Ole House

by Jimmy Dean
Jimmy Dean

Biography:

Jimmy Dean (August 10, 1928 Olton, Texas - June 13, 2010 Varina, Virginia) was an American singer, actor, and businessman who became a professional entertainer following a stint in the U.S. Air Force in the late 1940s. He was born Jimmy Ray Dean (not Seth Ward, as is sometimes stated - Seth Ward is the district of Plainview, Texas where he grew up).

He became the host of the popular Washington D.C. TV program Town and Country Time and, with his Texas Wildcats, became regional favorites.

This Ole House
Jimmy Dean

C
This ole house once knew my children
F
This ole house once knew my wife
G7
This ole house was home and comfort
C
As we fought the storms of life

This ole house once rang with laughter
F
This ole house heard many a shouts
C
Now she trembles in the darkness
G7 C
When the lightnin' walks about

F
I ain't a gonna need this house no longer
C
Ain't a gonna need this house no more
G7
Ain't got time to fix his shingles
C
Ain't got time to fix the door

F
Ain't got time to oil the hinges
C
Nor to mind the window panes
G7
I ain't gonna need this house no longer
C
I'm gettin' ready to meet the saints

This ole house is a gettin' shaky
F
This ole house is a gettin' old
G7
This ole house stands in the rain
C
This ole house stands in the cold

Oh my knees are gettin' chilly
F
But I feel no fear or pain
C
Cause I see an angel a peekin'
G7 C
Through a broken window pane

This ole house is afraid of thunder
F
This ole house is afraid of storms
G7
This ole house just groans and trembles
C
When the night wind flings his arms

This ole house is a gettin' feeble
F
This ole house is a needin' paint
C
Just like me it's tuckered out
G7 C
But I'm gonna get ready to meet the saints

Now my hound dog lies a-sleepin'
F
He don't know I'm gonna leave
G7
Else he'd wake up by the fireplace
C
And he'd sit there and howl and greive

But my huntin' days are over
F
Ain't gonna hunt the coon no more
C
Gabriel done grought in my chariot
G7 C
When the wind blew down the door
