Lyrics: Taken from the everything was beautiful liner notes Music: Scott Holcomb ([email protected])
AmGF Here along the roadside AmGF I brought nails and wood and paint AmGF I've had a little trouble AmGF Deciding on a saint AmGF A cross from Ensanada AmGF In the dark it's supposed to glow AmGF Some beads I bought in Garberville AmGF Another life ago
GF Out here on the highway GF I build your altar in your box GF Some shelter when its raining AmG Some shade for when its not AmGF It's not
AmGF Though red would probably suit you AmGF I think I'll just paint it white AmGF It's the color of the virgin AmGF She's my beacon in the night AmGF A statue of St. Francis AmGF He holds a little lamb AmGF And answers to a question AmGF So much bigger than I am
GF Out here on the highway GF It's your altar in your box GF Some shelter when its raining AmG Some shade for when its not
FCG At your altar in your box FCG At your altar in your box FCG The women throw Hail Mary's CAmG At your altar in your box
AmGF At last I will hang a rosary AmGF That my father gave to me AmGF From olive trees in Lebanon AmGF Some personal history AmGF And I won't include your photograph AmGF Or carve your name in stone AmGF So the women who bring flowers AmGF Can make your box their own
GF Out here on the highway GF It's your altar in your box GF Some shelter when its raining AmG Some shade for when its not
GF And I will light a candle GF And say a prayer for you GF So that I will not feel guilty AmG On the nights that I drive through
FCG At your altar in your box FCG At your altar in your box FCG The big wheels keep on rolling CAmG By your altar in your box
FCG At your altar in your box FCG At your altar in your box FCG The truckers all salute you CAmG In your altar in your box
FCG At your altar in your box FCG At your altar in your box FCG You just might find me kneeling CAmG By your altar in your box
AmGF As I sit beside the water AmGF And watch the men rake rocks AmGF I trust that you'll be happy AmGF In your altar in your box
