CC I fried my head, I'm not a brunette FC I'm a down and dusky blonde FC I am living in a tree FC When I lie in bed I see FCG Beyond my lover's head the moon, I hear the rain
CC I am conscious of my voice FC as a tool it's more demure FC Than your friend the singing queen FC With her matinee good looks FC She talks like talking from a book FCG I speak the language of my village, of my street
FC But I need a friend and I choose you FC I tell you the way I feel FC The truth is crushing like a heel FCG I will forget the kiss and feel if you will too
CC Tell me tales of punk rockin' girls FC It's a dim and distant page FC But I mostly blame my age FCG Please make allowances for me. I do not see.
CC It's a drag that you're getting old FC I love to think about the year FC When we sobbed and then we cheered FC The town deserted like a film FC Your torso crushing me FCG Into the country and the tunnels and the fields
FC But I need a friend and I choose you FC I tell you the way I feel FC The truth is crushing like a heel FCG I will forget the kiss and feel if you will too

CC I read a book a day like an apple FC But I did not eat FC And so the doctor came to me FC He said a woman does not live FCG By the printed word forgive yourself and eat
CC Autumn sped along outside FC Trick photography on speed FC I was locked inside a room FC They made a deal, they would control FCG The simple things like bodies but I kept my soul
FC When I needed someone I chose you FC Because the fledgling soul awakes FC And on the balcony she quakes FC And she is waiting for the sign FC And when the brother does not come FCG And when the sister's much too young, she chooses you
The little riff at the end of the verses is this or a variation -3-5-7-5-3-7-(8)-------------------| -----------------------------------| -4-5-7-5-4-7-(9)-------------------| -----------------------------------| -----------------------------------| -----------------------------------| He doesn’t usually play the last one, but goes back to the verse C.
