Concrete Blonde is an alternative rock band dating from the early 1980s to the early 1990s (and re-formed again in the 2000s). They are best known for the poignant songwriting and vocals of Johnette Napolitano.
Singer / songwriter / bassist Napolitano formed the band Dream 6 with guitarist James Mankey in Los Angeles in 1982, releasing an eponymous EP in France on the Happy Hermit label in 1983. When they signed with IRS in 1986, labelmate Michael Stipe suggested the name Concrete Blonde

HAPPY BIRTHDAY - by Concrete Blonde -------------- off the album 'Free'
FAm Outside in the hall there's a cat-fight BbC Its just after midnight, I guess I'll be alright
Laying out on the floor, drunk and poor. How much longer, how much more.
Oh rock me to sleep, strong and deep. Screaming cats they give me the creeps
But aside from all that I feel no pain, Staring up at the ceiling stains.
BbF Neon in the window, BbF Sirens far away, BbF News on the radio GmBbF Happy birthday, happy birthday, happy birthday
Well the cat next door, this whole floor, I swear they're out to drive me crazy.
But not right now, I'm high as a cloud, I'm soft and grey and lazy.
Smoking out the window, Feeling far away, News on the radio Happy birthday, happy birthday, happy birthday
(solo I think about now)
