Bill Morrissey

Handsome Molly

by Bill Morrissey
Bill Morrissey

Biography:

Bill Morrissey (November 25, 1951 – July 23, 2011) was an American folk singer-songwriter from New Hampshire. Many of his songs reflect the harsh realities of life in crumbling New England mill towns.

Hailing from New Hampshire in the northeastern United States, singer-songwriter Bill Morrissey wrote about everyday life on the fringes, both geographical--e.g., fading mill towns, railyards, prisons--and interpersonal--e.g., instant infatuation with an unknown woman at a bar.

Play like D-Bm (repeated) etc..

(D)I park my cab on (Bm)Water Street.

(G)Fire on the ocean,
Thunder on the (D)sea. (Bm) (D) (Bm)
I (A)think of Handsome Molly...(G)...
wherever she may (D)be. (Bm)

(D)Now, I'm either in this (Bm)cowboy bar,
(D)never in the(Bm) choir,
(D)Sometimes howlin' and (Bm)amazed
like the wind (D) hung up on (Bm)barbed wire.

(G)Fire on the ocean,
Thunder on the (D)sea. (Bm)
I (A)think of Handsome Molly...(G)......
and what she promised (D)me. (Bm)

(D)Well, it's pretty doe-eyed (Bm)Molly
could (D) see so well (Bm)at night.
(D)It was a hard trade she (Bm)made
just to see it (D) black (Bm)and white.

***** Instrumental ***** (Same as Chorus)
G-D-Bm-D-Bm-A-G-D-Bm-D-Bm

(D)Now the word's gone down this(Bm) north coast
and its(D) "Boy you best (Bm)take care...
(D)Cut yourself with A (Bm)knife,
find all the (D) salt that's in (Bm) the air."

(G)Fire on the ocean,
Thunder on the (D)sea. (Bm)
I (A)think of Handsome Molly...(G)......
who cried so (D)easily. (Bm)

(D) Now the soldiers down on(Bm) Water Street,
they eye the (Bm)little girls.
(D) And the little girls of (Bm)Water Street
will take (D) them 'round (Bm)the world.

(G)Fire on the ocean,
Thunder on the (D)sea. (Bm)
I (A)think of Handsome Molly...(G)......
wherever she may (D) be. (Bm)
