Apes of the State is an independent Lancaster, PA based folk/pop/punk band consisting of: April Hartman (guitar, banjo, vocals, song writing), Dan Ebersole (mandolin, guitar), Mollie Swartz (violin, keys), and Max Scott (vocals, bells, guitar).
April’s first release, “All I Did This Summer Was Go to Rehab (2014),” can be self-described as equal parts cringey and genius. It documents her first ever experiments in song writing and sobriety after uprooting her life in New Jersey to start over post-rehab in Lancaster, PA.
Four years of hard work! This month of May we celebrated four years on the air. We continue working on the dissemination of this wonderful instrument, thank you for participating in our story!
Capo 2nd fret. I wrote this song and this is how I play it on guitar. Listen to the song for the strumming pattern here: https://apesofthestate.bandcamp.com/track/bill-collectors-theme-song-2 There are some weird chord variations I use that really just involve taking a finger off of a normal chord. It looks hard but really isn't, don't get nervous.
[Verse 1] FFsus2FFsus2 When I was just a little kid they told me to dream big C you can do anything Csus2CCsus2 when I got older they told me to stop dreaming FFsus2FFsus2 start being more realistic, make the coffee do the dishes CCsus2CCsus2 but I can't seem to keep my head out of the clouds FFsus2 cause whats the point of living life FFsus2 to work until I die CCsus2CCsus2 That can't be it and if it is then I want out FFsus2FFsus2 and honestly I never had a dream of getting older CCsus2CCsus2 but here I am what can I do about it, tell me what to do about it now
[Bridge] Am7D7sus2CCsus2CCadd2/E Cause I never wanted to be every single stereotype of a white middle class 20-something pissed at the economy Am7D7sus2EAmFsus2 I never meant to be the epitome of a quarter life crisis and being a junkie didn't live up to the hype
[Solo] During the mandolin solo the guitar plays through the intro again: FFsus2FD7sus2CCsus2CCCsus2 2x
[Verse 2] FFsus2FFsus2 When I was just a little kid they told me I was special CCsus2CCsus2 Then I grew up and found out they told that to every single one of us FFsus2FFsus2 get addicted to our drugs then go away to universities CCsus2CCsus2 where we'll sell you dreams then make you work for free FFsus2FFsus2 They handed us an economy thats destined us for poverty CCsus2CCsus2 then have the nerve to call us soft and lazy for complaining FFsusFFsus2 cause they're from a generation where you could be what you wanted to be CCsus2CCF but baby I'm a 90's kid, only 90's kids will understand this
[Chorus]
Listen to song for strumming pattern as it changes here. I'm also doing a lot of blank percussive noises in between the chords
