Al Stewart (born in Glasgow, Scotland on 5 September 1945) is a British songwriter and musician. He is best known for his 1976 single Year of the Cat and its 1978 follow-up Time Passages (both produced by Alan Parsons). Stewart's inspiration for his songs primarily comes from the past; indeed, he is credited with creating his own genre, "historical folk rock". At one time in his life, Stewart took guitar lessons from King Crimson guitarist Robert Fripp.

Cmaj7BmEm On a morning from a Bogart movie Cmaj7BmEm in a country where they turned back time Cmaj7BmEm you go strolling through the crowd like Am7D7 Peter Lorre contemplating a crime. Cmaj7BmEm She comes out of the sun in a silk dress BC running like a water color in the rain. BEm Don't bother asking for explanations. Am7D She'll just tell you that she came
in the Year of the Cat.
[INSTRUMENTAL] Cmaj7D6Em (three times) Am7D
[Verse]
Cmaj7BmEm She doesn't give you time for questions Cmaj7BmEm as she locks up you arm in hers. Cmaj7BmEm And you follow 'til your sense of Am7D7 which direction completely disappears. Cmaj7BmEm By the blue-tiled walls near the market stalls BC there's a hidden door she leads you to. BEm "These days," she says, "I feel my life just Am7D like a river running through
the Year of the Cat."
[INSTRUMENTAL] Cmaj7D6Em (three times) Am7D
[BRIDGE] (lead-in: D instead of D7)
BC Well she looks at you so cooly GD and her eyes shine like the moon

the Year of the Cat.
[INSTRUMENTAL] Cmaj7D6Em (few times) Am7D
[Verse]
Cmaj7BmEm Well morning comes and you're still with her Cmaj7BmEm and the bus and the tourists are gone. Cmaj7BmEm And you've thrown away your choice and Am7D7 lost your ticket so you have to stay on. Cmaj7BmEm But the drumbeat strains of the night BC remain in the rhythm of the newborn day. BEm You know sometime you're bound to leave her Am7D but for now you're gonna stay
in the Year of the Cat.

What makes this song sound so great is the piano riffs, the sax, the solos, and, of course, Al Stewart's voice. But you can still have fun with this tune singing solo with a sweet soundin' acoustic in hand.
