Al Stewart

Biography:

Al Stewart (born in Glasgow, Scotland on 5 September 1945) is a British songwriter and musician. He is best known for his 1976 single Year of the Cat and its 1978 follow-up Time Passages (both produced by Alan Parsons). Stewart's inspiration for his songs primarily comes from the past; indeed, he is credited with creating his own genre, "historical folk rock". At one time in his life, Stewart took guitar lessons from King Crimson guitarist Robert Fripp.

Am F6(maj9) Ddim E
I have heard the news from Spain
Am Am/G F G Am
Now you say you've mamy things yet to be learning
F G F E Am
And you don't know if or when you'll be returning
E Am
It depends on how everything works out
E Am F6(maj9) Ddim E
If it can somehow in Carvajal

Am F6(maj9) Ddim E
And I have heard the news from Spain
Am Am/G F G Am
Now you've found someone you don't have to be tied to
F G F E Am
And he dried your eyes, and later he lay beside you
E Am
As the simple wine of the flow of time
E Am F6(maj9) Ddim E
Pulled us out of rhyme in Carvajal

A F
Into a taxi and down to the airport
E Am G
In only the clothes I was standing in
A F
A scribbled address, a toothbrush, a passport
E Am G Fmaj7
The money we saved in the biscuit tin
G Am
Running afraid to a strange Spanish town
F G Fmaj7 F6(maj9) Ddim E
Searching the sands and the shoreline...

Am F6(maj9) Ddim E
And I have heard the news from Spain
Am Am/G F G Am
Now the Winter winds possess the Southern reaches
F G F E Am
And the sea folds like a mantle on the beaches
E Am
And the crowds have gone and I've left my song
E Am F6(maj9) Ddim E
To be killed alone in Carvajal
Am F6(maj9) Ddim E
In Carvajal
Am F6(maj9) Ddim E
In Carvajal
