John Prine (born October 10, 1946 in Maywood, Illinois-died April 7, 2020 in Nashville, Tennessee) was an American country/folk singer-songwriter who has achieved widespread critical (and some commercial) success since the early 1970s.
The son of William Prine and Verna Hamm, his grandfather had played guitar with Merle Travis and he started playing guitar himself at 14 years old. He was a postman for 5 years and spent a couple of years in the army before starting his musical career in the Chicago area.

[Verse] CFG He stumbled through the alley with his long coat on FGC Nothing but a bottle in his hand CFG She sat in her apartment lonesome to the bone FGG Wondering what had happened to her man

[Verse] CFG When they'd walk down the sidewalk the street would shine FGC With the kind of love no human heart can fake CFG And they vowed to stay together till the end of time FGC Like the couple that stands on top of the wedding cake
[Chorus] CFCG Love, love, love, love FGC Nobody ever understands CFCG All the things that go FGC Between a woman and a man CFG If I should live to a ripe old age FGC The only lesson I may ever learn CFG Is to not stand so close to the flame of love FGC Unless you are willing to get burned
[Chorus] CFCG Love, love, love, love FGC Nobody ever understands CFCG All the things that go FGC Between a woman and a man
[Post-Chorus] CFCG All the things that go FGC Between a woman and a man
