[Verse 1] GDGD The summer's over, this town is closing. GDAD They're waving people out of the ocean. GDGD We had the feeling like we were floating. GDAD We never noticed where time was going. GDGD Do you remember when we first got here? GDAD The days were longer; the nights were hot here. GDGD Now, it's September; the engine's starting. GDAD You're empty-handed and heavy-hearted.
[Chorus] GBm But just remember on the way home, (Oooh ooh ooh) G That you were never meant to feel alone. GDGD It takes a little while, but you'll be fine, GDAD (hold) Another good time coming down the line.
[Verse 2] ADAD You'll go back to love that's waiting, ADA I'll unpack in a rented room. ADAD How's that life you swear you're hating? ADAD Grass is greener, that makes two.
[Chorus] GBm But just remember on the way home, (Oooh ooh ooh) G That you were never meant to feel alone. GDGD Just look me up; get back on the bus. GDAD I'll see you next week if you need my trust.
[Verse 3] (D chords throughout this verse, you can switch among D, Dsus4, D5, to keep it from getting stale) Life ain't short, but it sure is small. You get forever but nobody at all. Life ain't short, but it sure is small. You get forever but nobody at all. A It don't come often, and it don't stay long. (Oooh, oooh, oooh, oooh)
[Chorus] GBm But just remember on the way home, (Oooh ooh ooh) G That you don't ever have to feel alone. GDGD Just stay on the run; get off the grid. GDAD Hide yourself out like you know that I did, GDGD And if you might find that you're running is done, GDAD A little bit of Heaven never hurt no one.
