John Hiatt (born on August 20, 1952 in Indianapolis, Indiana, U.S.) is an American blues and rock guitarist, pianist, and singer-songwriter. He has been nominated for eleven Grammy Awards. Hiatt's sales have never quite matched his reputation. His songs have been covered by a wide variety of artists such as Bonnie Raitt, Ronnie Milsap, Willie Nelson, Iggy Pop, Three Dog Night, and The Neville Brothers, yet it took him thirteen years to reach the charts himself.

Thing Called Love, by John Hiatt
note: this is in the key of ??, as played by Bonnie Raitt on Nick of Time, as opposed to the key of ??????, as Hiatt plays it on Bring the Family.
A Don't have to humble yourself to me, I ain't your judge or your king CGA Baby, you know you ain't no Queen of Sheba A We may not even have our dignity, this could be just a powerful thing, CGAAGF Baby we can choose you know we ain't no amoeba
FBbC Are you ready for this thing called love FBbC Don't come from you and me, it comes from up above FBbC I ain't no porcupine, take off your kid gloves, FBbG Are you ready for this thing called love
You ain't some icon carved out of soap, sent down here to clean up my reputation Baby, I ain't your Prince Charming, Now we can live in fear or act out of hope, for some kind of peaceful situation Baby, don't know why the cry of love is so alarming
Chorus
Ugly ducklings don't turn into swans, And glide off down the lake, Whether your sunglasses are off or on, You only see the world you make,
Before the laws of God and man I took you for my wife To love, honour, cherish and obey, Now I didn't have no plans to live this kind of life It just worked out that way
Chorus
this won't be exactly correct, but I think it's pretty close.
