Jethro Tull is a progressive rock / folk rock band which formed in Blackpool, Lancashire, England in 1967. Their music is marked by the initially soulful and bluesy, and later expressively idiosyncratic, vocal style and unique lead flute work of frontman Ian Anderson, and their notable guitarist Martin Barre. Their songs feature unusual and often complex construction, incorporating elements of classical and celtic folk music, as well as art rock and alternative rock.

DEm7DF# When I was young and they packed me off to school GDAsus4Asus2AA And taught me how not to play the game, DEm7DF# I didn't mind if they groomed me for success, GDAsus4Asus2AA Or if they said that I was a fool. DEm7 So I left there in the morning DF# With their God tucked underneath my arm -- GDAsus4Asus2AA Their half-assed smiles and the book of rules. DEm7 So I asked this God a question DF# And by way of firm reply, GDAsus4Asus2A He said -- I'm not the kind you have to wind up on Sundays. DEm7DF# So to my old headmaster (and to anyone who cares): GDAsus4Asus2A Before I'm through I'd like to say my prayers -- DEm7 I don't believe you: DF# You had the whole damn thing all wrong -- GDAsus4Asus2A He's not the kind you have to wind up on Sundays. GADBmG Well you can excomMunicate me on my way to Sunday school GABm And have all the bishops harmonize these lines -- Bm How do you dare tell me that I'm my Father's son GDF# When that was just an accident of Birth. Bm I'd rather look around me -- compose a better song GDF# `cos that's the honest measure of my worth. Bm In your pomp and all your glory you're a poorer man than me, GDF# As you lick the boots of death born out of fear. Bm When I was young and they packed me off to school GDF# And taught me how not to play the game, Bm I didn't mind if they groomed me for success, GDF# Or if they said that I was a fool. GADBmG Well you can excommunicate me on my way to Sunday school GABm And have all the bishops harmonize these lines -- DEm7DF# When I was young and they packed me off to school GDAsus4Asus2AA And taught me how not to play the game, DEm7DF# I didn't mind if they groomed me for success, GDAsus4Asus2AA Or if they said that I was a fool.
