Jason Thomas Mraz (born June 23, 1977 in Mechanicsville, Virginia) is a Grammy-winning American singer-songwriter. Mraz’s stylistic influences include reggae, pop, rock, folk, jazz, and hip hop.
Mraz released his debut album, Waiting for My Rocket to Come in 2002 but it was not until the release of his second album, Mr. A-Z that Mraz achieved commercial success. The album peaked at number five on the Billboard Hot 200 and sold over one hundred thousand copies in the US.

I transcribed this lovely album simply as an ear-exercise on the 14th and 15th of August 2008. And because I just adore Jason Mraz of course! I've tried not to use any other instrument than my ears while transcribing this, and that turned out to be brilliant training, you should really try that! :) As most of the guitar on this record isn't very complicated, it can be notated as simple chords, and that's how I've done for all the songs. And of course I've also included the parts that are more suitable for tabs, certain finger picking figures for example. In this song there is 1 picking pattern and 4 strummed chords. The picking pattern is played in the verses and interludes. Notice that the pattern for the E and the C#m7 is excactly the same, as these are two very similar chords. You can also just play the picking pattern as strummed chords, those would be the first 3 chords I've added in the chord chart. The strummed chords are played in the chorus and bridge. Those are the next 4 chords in the chord chart. Capo on 2nd fret
All the way through the song is just the same round of two bars of played over and over again. So instead of indicating chords, I've just indicated how many rounds long each part is, pretty simple :)
The Picking Pattern: Okay, this is such a cool riff! It's kinda tricky though - especially if you're to sing/rap at the same time! The tricky thing is the slaps on the beats 2 and 4 (except for the second 4). The easiest way of learning the whole thing would be to learn it without the slaps in first place. Simply start with the finger picking, and then try to add the slaps afterward. Notice how important the slaps are! How Jason slaps is slapping only the low e- and a-string (as noted in the tab) with the thumb. By only slapping and dampening those two strings, you can let the other strings ring across the slap, but it really takes some motor function. I find the second slap hardest, as you are to do the slide simultaneously, but when it's nailed, it sounds so groovey! I typed the riff into GP5, so just mail me and ask for it if you want it.

Ooh, this is just a lovely simple song! Troughout the entire song is just one single chord progression of 4 bars and 3 variations. So instead of writing the same chords over again, I'll just wirte how many rounds each part is long, simple :D

The Intro-Riff: This riff is played by an electric guitar with overdrive in the intro-parts. It's played with capo on the 2nd fret. I have notated it below as if there was no capo on, since it's easier to read. So the open string (0th fret) on the high e-string is still actually a F#-note on the 2nd fret - say the capo just hold that fret for you. Intro: It's not really useful putting chords to this part. The first part would switching between E/f# and F#m7, and the second part is changing between Dmaj7-5, D5maj7 and Dmaj7 rather randomly. It would be a better idea to generalise it to just F#m7 and Dmaj7. (I've also made this in GP5, so just mail me and ask if want you want it.)

Chords: The main groove is the one switching between Abmaj7 and Dbmaj9, but since there really aren't any good-sounding ways of playing a Dbmaj9 on just guitar, I've thrown in some different voicings to spice up an acoustic version. Notice that Jason plays with a capo on the 1st fret live. It's actually not for any use chord-wise - it's simply just sounds less horrible if you accidentally strike open strings with the capo on :)
