E I'm sitting down by the highway AEAE Down by that highway side A Everybody's going somewhere EAE Riding just as fast as they can ride B I guess they've got a lot to do C#mA Before they can rest assured EBA Their lives are justified E Pray to God for me baby AEB He can let me slide
E 'Cause I've been up and down this highway AEAE Far as my eyes can see A No matter how fast I run EAE I can never seem to get away from me B No matter where I am C#mAE I can't help feeling I'm just a day away BA From where I want to be E Now I'm running home baby AEB Like a river to the sea
E Baby if you can see me A Out across this wilderness E There's just one thing B I was hoping you might guess C#m Baby you can free me ABEAEB All in the power of your sweet tenderness
E I can see it in your eyes AEAE You've got those bright baby blues A You don't see what you've got to gain EAE But you don't like to lose B You watch yourself from the sidelines C#mAE Like your life is a game you don't mind playing BA To keep yourself amused E I don't mean to be cruel baby AEB But you're looking confused
E Baby if you can hear me A Turn down your radio E There's just one thing B I want you to know C#m When you've been near me ABEAEB I've felt the love stirring in my soul
E It's so hard to come by AEAE That feeling of peace
This friend of mine said AEAE "Close your eyes, and try a few of these" B I thought I was flying like a bird C#mA So far above my sorrow E But when I looked down BA I was standing on my knees E Now I need someone to help me AEB Someone to help me please
E Baby if you need me A Like I know I need you E There's just one thing B I'll ask you to do
C#m Take my hand and lead me AB To the hole in your garden wall EAEB And pull me through
