Dsus4/AD/AAA In my early years I hid my tears BmGD And passed my days alone BmEA Adrift on an ocean of loneliness GAD My dreams like nets were thrown Dsus4/AD/AAA To catch the love that I'd heard of BmGD In books and films and songs BmEA Now there's a world of illusion and fantasy GAD In the place where the real world belongs GAD Still I look for the beauty in songs
F#mA To fill my head and lead me on GAD Though my dreams have come up torn and empty AG As many times as love has come and gone
Dsus4/AD/AAA To those gentle ones my memory runs BmGD To the laughter we shared at the meals BmEA I filled their kitchens and living rooms GAD With my schemes and my broken wheels
Dsus4/AD/AAA It was never clear how far or near BmGD The gates to my citadel lay BmEA They were cutting from stone some dreams of their own GAD But they listened to mine anyway GAD I'm not sure what I'm trying to say
F#mA It could be I've lost my way GAD Though I keep a watch over the distance AG Heaven's no closer than it was yesterday
DAF# And the angels are older BmBm/AG They know not to wait up for the sun DA/C# They look over my shoulder BmBm/AE/G#A At the maps and the drawings of the journey I've begun
GAD Now the distance leads me farther on F#mA Though the reasons I once had are gone GAD I keep thinking I'll find what I'm looking for AG In the sand beneath the dawn
DAF# But the angels are older BmBm/AG They can see that the sun's setting fast DA/C# They look over my shoulder BmBm/AE/G#A At the vision of paradise contained in the light of the past DAF# And they lay down behind me BmBm/AG To sleep beside the road till the morning has come DA/C# Where they know they will find me BmBm/AG With my maps and my faith in the distance ADGA Moving farther on
