Intro: EEEG#mAB x2
Verse 1: EB So this is where you've C#mG#mABE been? A colonial BC#m apartment? A white G#mAB picket fence? You know EB I pictured you determining C#mG#mA success behind a diamond BE ring But wedlock made B you settle kept you C#mG#mAB running from the truth
Chorus 1: F#mC#m A certain age defines EB uncertainty I never G#/C could explain So does C#m the time create E/G# or move to make B mistakes these days?
Post Chorus: EG#mABE x2 AE/G#F#m
Verse 2: EB So this is where C#mG#mAB we'll stay E The steps to your BC#m apartment seem such a G#mAB long way From the EB evenings on your father's C#m couch And mornings in G#mABE my father's backseat B It was spatial C#m exploration A seeking seventeen
Chorus 2: F#mC#m A certain age defines EB a confidence I never F#mC#m could explain Some E would say it's wisdom BF#m I would call it change C#m You pulled the calm E from your charisma B once precociously G#/C arranged What made C#m the time create E/G# and move to make DA you blame these days?
Bridge: E So where's the reckless G#/CC#m lipstick and your south AE Philly neighbors? Where C#m are the memoirs of AB illegal behavior? EG#/C Where are the lovesick C#mA lines And "no trespassing" EC#m signs? The after hours AB trading X-rated favors? EG#/C Where are our teens? C#mA And how were your twenties? EC#m Where are the fourties AB that hide behind thirty? EG#/C Where's the old soul C#m And what is this new DA person you've become? E/G#AE/G#A Well who've you become?
Outro: A I closed my eyes and woke to your morning E/G#D routine A boring and ACEG#mAB contemporary scene
