Belle and Sebastian is a band from Glasgow. Led by guitarist/vocalist Stuart Murdoch, the seven-piece band has an intimate, majestic sound that is equal parts folk-rock and '60s pop. Murdoch has a gift not only for whimsy and surrealism, but also for odd, unsettling lyrical detail which keeps the songs grounded in a tangible reality.
Based in Glasgow, Scotland, Belle and Sebastian released their first two albums in 1996: Tigermilk, recorded over three days

[Am]Down at the zoo, [G]there isn’t any noise [Em]It’s much too early, [G]for girls and boys [Am]The monkeys have a plan, [G]but you mustn’t say a word [Em]They’re going to do it quietly, [G]so they can’t be heard
[F]They’re sawing through the bars [C]They’re climbing out the cage [G]They’re tiptoeing past the zoo keeper [F]They’re running out the gates
[C]Because today [G]the monkeys are [F]breaking out the [C]zoo (x2)
[Am]The zoo keeper’s sleeping, [G]he hasn’t heard a thing [Em]All of the monkeys, [G]escaping [Am]When he wakes up, [G]he’s going to get a shock [Em]He’s lost all the monkeys, [G]and they won’t come back
[F]They’re skipping down the street [C]They’re beating on their chests [G]They’re laughing and screeching [F]And scratching their heads
[C]Because today [G]the monkeys are [F]breaking out the [C]zoo (x4)
[Am]If you plan to go, [G]to the zoo today [Em]You won’t see monkeys, [G]cuz they’ve gone away
[F]They’re heading for the mountains [C]They’re heading for the trees [G]They’re happy just to run around [F]And they’re happy to be free
[F]Some are hailing taxis [C]Some are riding bikes [G]Some are swimming rivers [F]Some are flying kites
[F]Now they’re jumping [C]And swinging from the trees [G]Rolling on the floor [F]And picking out the fleas
[C]Because today [G]the monkeys have [F]broken out the [C]zoo (x8)
