The Soup Dragons were a Scottish alternative rock band of the late 1980s and early 1990s, named after a character in the 1970s children's TV show The Clangers. The band is best known in the UK for their cover of the Rolling Stones' "I'm Free" and in America for their Top 40 hit "Divine Thing".
The Soup Dragons formed in Bellshill, Scotland a town very near to Glasgow (which would later spawn another popular band, Teenage Fanclub) in 1985. The line up was Sean Dickson (vocals, lead guitar), Jim McCulloch (guitar, second voice) and Sushil K.

Okay, this is how *I* play it. I listened to the recording and the first chord is ACTUALLY an E-flat (which would mean you tune down 1/2 step ep and start on E). However, I figured out a really easy version that's un fun to play and is recognizable...
Your chords are: (str EADGBe) D5 xx023x D xx0232 Dsus2 xx0230 Dsus4 xx0233 E 022100 G 3x0033
First, I'm gonna define what will be referred to below as "D-fill": you play DDDsus2DDsus4DDsus2D It looks complicated if you're not familiar with the pattern, but in reality it's pretty easy. You just either remove your middle finger fromm the standard D chord or add your pinky on the 3rd fret of the high E. If you're a beginner, practice it once or twice. It really adds to the song otherwise you'd just be droning along on the D for the chorus. es.
"Divine Thing" by the Soup Dragons
Intro: D5DDD5 D5DDD5
D You are the one supreme being EGDD-fill Just dressed to kill and fulfill just any dream D And you are the one heart's desire EGDD-fill All hips and lips made to trick just any fool.
CHORUS: EGD-fill But I could have sworn that you were an angel EGD 'Cause you're a sweet, sweet, sweet divine thing. EGD-fill But I should have known that you were the devil EGD Dressed like a sweet, sweet, sweet divine thing.
And you lack the one thing that is devotion Not always there in your hair, in a daze. Just too mixed up in your own emotions Your vanity will always be your greatest thing.
(CHORUS)
(D-fills throughout outro) Divine thing. Divine thing. Divine thing. (etc.)
Dat be all. 'Tis a rather simple song. I would assume it would get a bitit more complicated if you were to play it true to the record, but why make it hard on yourself?... Good luck. Paul D.
