The National is a Brooklyn-based indie rock band formed in 1999, by friends from Cincinnati, Ohio, USA. The band's lyrics are written and sung by Matt Berninger in a distinctive, deep baritone. The rest of the band is composed of two pairs of brothers: Aaron Dessner (guitar, bass, keyboards), Bryce Dessner (guitar), Scott Devendorf (bass, guitar) and Bryan Devendorf (drums).
Their self-titled debut album"The National" (Brassland 2001) was recorded and released before they had played even a single show.
Four years of hard work! This month of May we celebrated four years on the air. We continue working on the dissemination of this wonderful instrument, thank you for participating in our story!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------- The National - Wake Up Your Saints -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
[Verse] E I had a hole in the middle G#m Where the lightning went through C#m I told my friends not to worry B My wife would know how to fix it E Hole in the middle G#m I'm seeing less of you C#m Now i'm not going anywhere B And I dont know what I'll do
[Chorus] G#mB It's easy to lose your grip C#mG# It's easy
The verse chords are used in the build up bits (i.e. "So i walk...") and the chorus chords for "wake up your saints..."
If you want to cheat and dont like bar chords, tune all your strings down one fret and its just 'FAmDmC' for the verse and 'AmCDmA' for the chorus- I keep my guitar tuned down a couple of steps so would tend to play it this way, even though its cheating and takes the fun out of it I prefer the sound.
