The National is a Brooklyn-based indie rock band formed in 1999, by friends from Cincinnati, Ohio, USA. The band's lyrics are written and sung by Matt Berninger in a distinctive, deep baritone. The rest of the band is composed of two pairs of brothers: Aaron Dessner (guitar, bass, keyboards), Bryce Dessner (guitar), Scott Devendorf (bass, guitar) and Bryan Devendorf (drums).
Their self-titled debut album"The National" (Brassland 2001) was recorded and released before they had played even a single show.
Four years of hard work! This month of May we celebrated four years on the air. We continue working on the dissemination of this wonderful instrument, thank you for participating in our story!
The fundamental chord progressions in this song are very basic. But you don't hear just strumming the chords in the recording, so I would be foolish to approach this song on my own with an acoustic guitar expect to replicate what I've heard on the CD. Make it your own.
The arrangement on the CD appears to be several electric guitar tracks just finger around pairs of notes so there are often added notes and suspensions that make the harmony a little more coloured. If you're it on your own just play the chords. I would assume that if you were musical enough to be able to arrange it yourself, you wouldn't looking at this page.

If you want to add a more colourful sense of harmony to the song (though I wouldn't overusing it with just an acoustic), instead of playing |D - A - Bm - G
try
|D/A - A - Bm - G/B
These are accurate chords, but it's nigh on impossible to tab because there is so much on in and it's mixed so lo-fi. That's why it's great.
