R.E.M. was an American rock band from Athens, Georgia, formed in 1980 by drummer Bill Berry, guitarist Peter Buck, bassist/backing vocalist Mike Mills, and lead vocalist Michael Stipe. One of the first alternative rock bands, R.E.M. was noted for Buck's ringing, arpeggiated guitar style, Stipe's distinctive vocal quality and obscure lyrics, Mills's melodic basslines and backing vocals, and Berry's tight, economical style of drumming.
R.E.M. released its first single—"Radio Free Europe"—in 1981 on the independent record label Hib-Tone.

LAST DATE (Floyd Cramer)
I don't have the details of the song written down, but LAST DATE is basically just C, F and G. As written by Floyd Cramer, it was just a piano solo with a bit of percussion, vocal "ooohs", bass and strings, so it sounds best if you play it on a piano instead of a guitar (IMHO).
If you can figure out the melody line to go over-top the chords, I can give you the chords... hang on a second while I put the CD on and I'll type the chords as I hear them... bars are separated by slashes...
