Nick Drake (Nicholas Rodney Drake, Rangoon, Burma, June 19, 1948 - Tanworth-in-Arden, England, November 25, 1974) was an English folk singer known for his gentle, enigmatic songs and his virtuosic right-hand finger picking technique.
Although he recorded only three albums, critics and fellow musicians hold his work in very high esteem. Drake failed to find a wide audience during his lifetime and had a strong aversion to performing. Since his death, however, Drake's music has gained a significant cult following.

CLOTHES OF SAND- Nick Drake
TUNING: DGDGAD or EAEABE
Gsus2FGsus2F Gsus2FGsus2 Who has dressed you in strange clothes of sand? Ebmaj7Dsus2 Who has taken you far from my land? Gsus2FGsus2 Who has said that my sayings are wrong Ebmaj7Dsus2Gsus2 And who will say that I stayed much too long
CHORUS: Ebmaj7FGsus2 Clothes of sand have covered your face Ebmaj7Dsus2 Given you meaning but taken my place Ebmaj7FGsus2Gsus2/FGsus2/E So make your way on down to the sea Ebmaj7Dsus2Gsus2FGsus2 Something has taken you so far from me
Does it now seem worth all the colour of skies To see the earth through painted eyes To look through panes of shaded glass See the stains of winter's grass?
Can you now return to from where you came Try to burn your changing name Or with silver spoon and coloured light Will you worship moons in winter's night
CHORUS: Clothes of sand have covered your face Given you meaning but taken my place So make your way on down to the sea Something has taken you so far from me Gsus2 F

NOTES: My ear isn't good enough to give the full picking pattern, but listen to the record and you can get very close. It is important to emphasise the base note (the bottom note of each chord). Also, before playing the Ebmaj7 chord, always hit the 6th string open base note first (D) then the Eb base note then the rest of the picking pattern.
