AC#mD My lady may I have this dance BmE Forgive a knight who knows no shame AC#mD My lady may I have this dance BmEA And lady may I know your name
D You danced upon a soldiers arm BmE And I felt the blade of love so keen AC#mD And when you smiled you did me harm BmEA And I was drawn to you, my queen
AC#mD Now these boots may take me where they will BmE Though they may never shine like his AC#mD There is no knight I would not kill BmEA To have my lady's hand to kiss
C#mD Yes and they did take me through the hall BmE To leave me not one breath from you AC#mD And they fell silent one and all BmEA And you could see my heart was true
AC#mD Then I did lead you from the hall BmE And we did ride upon the hill AC#mD Away beyond the city wall BmEA And sure you are my lady still C#mD A night in summer long ago BmE The stars were falling from the sky AC#mD And still, my heart, I have to know BmEA Why do you love me, lady, why?
