Jonathan King admitted that this was basically just a spoof of 'poetic'
lyrics that had become the rage during the folk-rock scare of 1965.
While he never had another US hit, he went on to a long career as a
musical prankster in the UK, releasing a lengthy string of novelty
records (including an 'ooga-chaka' cover of 'Hooked On A Feeling' years
before Blue Swede) under a wide variety of studio aliases. He also
discovered (and named) Genesis, but even I don't detest Phil Collins
enough to call that his biggest prank of all. -- AWR
