Hoodoo Gurus (sometimes just shortened to 'Gurus') are an Australian rock band combining elements of seventies power pop, bubblegum pop, Beatle-esque harmonies, psychedelia and grungy garage rock. Guitarists Dave Faulkner, Rod Radalj, and Kimble Rendall were joined by drummer James Baker when the band formed in Sydney in 1981. Baker and Radalj had been members of Perth band The Scientists in 1977-79, while Baker had drummed with Faulkner and in another Perth band, The Victims, in 1978-79.

HOODOO GURUS: A Thousand Miles Away
AD Estimated time of arrival nine thirty am AD Been up before the sun and now I'm tired before I even begin EADE (Now you're flying) I got so much work in front of me (E) ADA (Really flying) It stretches out far as the eye can see (A) D I can see
Spent half my life in airports doing crosswords or attempting to sleep And when the bar is open then you'll often find I'm warming a seat (Now you're flying) I never find a place where I can stay (Really flying) I'd rather be a thousand miles away A thousand miles away
Working for yourself sometimes ain't all that it's cracked up to be It can be as lonely at the top as at the bottom of that corporate tree (Now you're flying) I'm told I'm going places who can say (Really flying) I might arrive but I'll be gone the very next day
I must be on my way, a thousand miles away
I promise to myself someday I'll take the time and try to make friends And of all those opportunities I lost I'm trying to sit on the fence Right now I got no time for yesterday Yesterday's a thousand miles away, a thousand miles away (a thousand miles away)
Life was sad then you were trying to say I guess I was a thousand miles away, hey hey hey, hey hey hey, yeah A thousand miles away Sing it again, a thousand miles away, sing it again, a thousand miles away... -- Tim Villa Faculties of Economics & Commerce, Education and Law Computer Officer The University of Western Australia Phone: +61-9-380-1796 Fax: +61-9-380-1068 [email protected] http://www.ecel.uwa.edu.au/~tim/tim
