Gert Vlok Nel is a South African poet, as well as a singer / songwriter. In South Africa he is quite famous, and ever since a Dutch documentarist decided to film a portrait of this artist in the summer of 2006 he is being discovered by more and more people. Because of the strong relationship between Afrikaans and its inheret background rooted in Dutch, the lyrics are just as powerful for Dutch speaking listeners. The lyrics and the music complement eachother in a serene and harmonious way.

English Translation (of chorus): River, Oh, River, Is the deepest word that I know, I could navigate by you to the sea and to her, In the hope that I would win her heart, but desert, is the word, by which I must journey to win her heart.
