Fred Astaire (1899-1987) was an American dancer and singer famous for his numerous appearances in the 1920s and 1930s in Vaudeville, on Broadway and on the London stage with sister Adele Astaire; in musical films between the 1930s and 1960s; and on American TV in the 1950s and beyond. Although he teamed with many dancers, including Gene Kelly, his best known screen pairing was with Ginger Rogers, with whom he appeared in 10 films. He continued to act in non-dancing roles in films and TV in the 1960s through 1980s.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Top hat, white tie and tails Irving Berlin ---------------------------------------------------------------- 1935--------------- Tabbed by: Mike Lydiat E-mail: [email protected] Tuning:EADGBE
The tricky part of this song is the syncopation - especially in the INTRO. I've tried to reproduce the way I do it as tablature - but you have to listen lots and feel it for success. This Fred Astaire video might help - put capo on Fret 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wc77Vlb-yAE
I've tabbed the INTRO tune that I use before the INTRO words begin.

[Chorus] CDmEbmB7E I'm step-ping Em out, my dear to breathe an atmosphere that simply reeks with class EmB7EGDG7 And I trust that you'll excuse my dust when I step on the gas For I'll be CDmG7C there putting down my top hat mussing up my white tie dancing in my tails
