Damien Jurado (born 12 November 1972) is an American singer-songwriter in the indie-rock tradition of Seattle, Washington. His music is regarded as being heavily influenced by folk music. Over the years he has released albums on many labels; today his primary label is Secretly Canadian. He was once in the band, Coolidge, with Seattle's David Bazan.
Jurado's solo career began during the mid-1990s, releasing lo-fi folk based recordings on his own cassette-only label, Casa Recordings, beginning in 1995.

CAPO 4 standard tuning
Play this one with a capo on 4 to make it sound just like the record. I saw Damien the other night in Atlanta play this song with these exact chords with a capo on 6, but that's not the way he does it on the record.
The whole song is based around a C chord and what I call a Fadd4* (play this one from low to high: 0-3-3-2-1-0). The entire song follows a very simple picking pattern that I have tabbed below:
Repeat this and then switch to the Fadd4* and play a similar picking pattern on it. Improv on this one a bit, or listen to the record to do it exactly as Damien does it.
Then, go back into the picking pattern on C, lifting your second finger on and off of the fourth string second fret as tabbed above. Also, be sure to hammer back onto the fourth string occasionally in the verses. For instance, one should hammer on the word "brother's" in the first verse, "asked" in the second, "spies" in the third, "man" in the fourth, and "Jackie" in the last.
-------
C It just so happens I have many concerns
My brother's down the road and my lover in town Fadd4* They both need affection C And some kind of love Fadd4* Well I'm the one who gives it at any given time
From two in the morning to six C Call me up and cry
C My lover keeps it secret that we meet under covers
When asked by her man if we two are lovers Fadd4* She says, "I hardly know him. C Besides, he's not my type." Fadd4* Her man's a policeman with a keen sense of trouble
He's known to spot danger C And all kinds of liars
C My brother called this morning in a terrible panic
Spies in the closet, bugs in the attic Fadd4* He screams bloody murder saying, C "We're all gonna die." Fadd4* And death is upon me, I know 'cause he showed me C Pictures of graveyards and us underneath. Fadd4* I'm losing my hearing from my brother screaming,
"They're coming to get me. C Can someone call the police?"
C Two in the morning, the phone disconnected
Her man knows I'm calling, it's what I expected Fadd4* C A note on my backdoor saying, "Baby, not tonight." Fadd4* So I sit with my brother who is nursing a cut wrist
He's mumbling "Forgive me." C And "Don't let them take me away." Fadd4* I can be a good boy and stay out of trouble
Jackie I love you and C Don't let them take your brother
C Strapped to a table, go in the electrodes
"Jackie come save me the doctors will kill me." Fadd4* No, they're here to help you C Straighten out your mind." Fadd4* The TV is blaring with some preacher saying that C God is among us and he hears our cries Fadd4* Lord, do me a favor
It's wrong but I ask you C Take my brother's life Fadd4* 'Cause he's sick of the suffering
The pills he's inhaling
The cross he is bearing C That is his troubled mind
