Courtney Barnett is an Australian singer/songwriter originally from Sydney, New South Wales; later moving to Hobart, Tasmania[/placeform] where she began performing music in 2006 before relocating to Melbourne in 2010.
Barnett puts a lot of effort into sounding effortless. Her songs are wild and wooly and wordy, her lyrics plainspoken and delivered like she’s making them up on the spot.
Barnett was originally a part of several bands, including Immigrant Union and The Olivettes before focusing on her solo work.
Four years of hard work! This month of May we celebrated four years on the air. We continue working on the dissemination of this wonderful instrument, thank you for participating in our story!
First of all, this is the one of the easiest Courtney songs so you won´t have any problem learning this one. You can give this song your style as the verse is randomly strummed. Last but not least, Courtney plays almost all of her songs without a pick, and this is one of those songs. Enjoy!

Verse 1 (0:41):
Watermarks on the ceiling Em(Really low volume) I can see Jesus and he's frowning at me
I see a dead seal on the beach
The old man says he's already saved it three times this week
Guess it just wants to die
I would wanna die too
With people putting oil into my air
But to be fair, I've done my share
Guess everybody's got their different point of view
Verse 2 (1:23):
EmEmA I was walking down Sunset Strip, Phillip Island, not Los Angeles
Got me some hot chips and a cold drink EmA Took a sandy seat on the shore A There's a paper on the ground, it makes my headache quite profound A5 As I read it out loud EmA It said "The Great Barrier Reef it ain't so great anymore
It's been raped beyond belief, the dredgers treat it like a whore" EmA I drank 'til I was sinking, sank 'til I was thinking EmA That I'm thankful for this view EmA I drank 'til I was sinking, sank 'til I was thinking EmA That I'm thankful for this view Em We either think that we're invincible or that we are invisible A Realistically we're somewhere in between EmAEmA We all think that we're nobody but everybody is somebody else's somebody
Chorus 1 (2:47): EmA Don't ask me what I really mean EmA I am just a reflection EmA Of what you really wanna see EmA So take what you want from me EmA Don't ask me what I really mean EmA I am just a reflection EmA Of what you really wanna see EmA So take what you want from me EmA Don't ask me what I really mean EmA I am just a reflection EmA Of what you really wanna see EmA So take what you want from me EmA So take what you want from me (x8)
