In 2011 Rubel moved to Austin. Contrary to what is expected of a conservative state like Texas, he found a city that revolved around music and its thousands of university residents. The city's motto was taken quite seriously: Keep Austin Weird (wasn’t that Portland, OR’s motto?).
He ended up in a big house, where a hundred other people lived. He met good people who lived without foreseeing the next step
