What started off as a group of friends getting together to make music soon got the attention of very many locals in the Rio Grande Valley. Local clubs would invite these teenagers to open up for big Tejano acts. A mixture of cover and original songs also got the attention of an important record label out of Corpus Christi called, Crown Records. Before the record deal, the band had to come up with an original name that would represent them.
Their name was derived from the Spanish word "signo" which means "sign".
